Three things you can do for a better police service

Queensland is a great place for families to live, work and grow. Keeping Queensland kids safe is something we are all need to take responsibility for, it’s a responsibility that police workers, both sworn officers and police staff take seriously.

The Newman government is cutting police jobs and support services, putting this commitment at risk. We have seen again that they are more concerned with job cut targets than keeping our streets safe.

Removing employment security in police risks politicising the service and undermining reforms aimed at building a better Queensland.

You can show the Newman government what’s at stake by calling on all politicians to vote against any moves to legislate to remove employment security by signing the petition – www.workingforqueenslanders.org.au/protectpolice

By signing you can send a strong message so that Carl Judge MP can take your message to keep politicians out of police straight to Campbell Newman in Parliament.

This radical agenda is a particular risk for our regional communities.

You can send a message to Cairns MPs to stand up for safety in the Far North by signing this petition – http://www.workingforqueenslanders.org.au/police_in_cairns

We’re also asking Sunshine Coast supporters whether the Maroochydore regional police office should be closed?   You can have your say – www.workingforqueenslanders.org.au/keep_police_in_maroochydore

Whether it’s to the role of police in keeping our communities safe, jobs in our children’s hospital or the people that keep our schools running, Working For Queenslanders is the place that you can stand with other public servants to make a difference in 2013.

These services are too important to let Campbell Newman and his government off the hook for what they have done.

It’s been amazing seeing the commitment of members and supporters across the community over the last few months. Let’s keep it going and spread the word!
