Queensland’s services are under an unprecedented threat thanks to the government's response to the the Costello audit commission.
This document is not a blueprint for Queensland’s future, it’s a recipe for destruction. It represents an ideological goal of hollowed-out public services, job losses, less accountability to the public, and massive economic pain.
You can stick up for quality services for Queenslanders by signing this petition today.
We need only look at the United Kingdom – where privatisation and contracting out have meant increased levels of unemployment and lower wages, at the same time as making services for those in need less accessible. The British economy is not expected to recover fully from these vicious public service cuts for years to come.
The Newman government's response is, at its core, a plan whereby the government walks away from its responsibility to deliver services and hands over services to big companies for profit. The government knows privatisation is poison in the community so it is hiding – it wants to announce sell-offs first then justify them, without a community debate.
Even while this report represents a threat to Queensland’s future, it’s also a chance for us to change Queensland for the better, which is why the Working for Queenslanders movement will be moving into a new phase soon.
You will have the chance to spread our message and give Queenslanders the chance to have a say, since the government doesn’t want to you that opportunity and is moving to shut down debate about what privatisation will mean for Queensland families.
We will have the chance to ask Queenslanders the question: who do they want running their prisons, their hospitals, their disability services?
Do you oppose the privatisation of services for Queenslanders?
It’s time to start talking about quality services for the Queensland we all deserve.
For a better Queensland.
