Over the past year the Newman government has engaged in a war on Queenslanders. A war that the government doesn’t want to talk about, a war on the thousands that it has condemned to unemployment, a war where the services Queenslanders that need the most have been savaged, a war on the Queensland that so many of us have worked so hard to build.
Last year, the focus was on cutting jobs up and down the Queensland coast. Now, they are opening a new front in this war on services, with their attention now turning towards privatisation. No service, no person working hard to build a better Queensland, no community is completely safe from these privatisation plans.
Queensland families understand that the experience of privatisation has been lower quality services, cost blow outs, gaps for regional communities and no accountability for service delivery.
Privatisation threatens every Queenslander. It threatens the people who struggle to make ends meet and need help when a family member needs medical care. It endangers every taxpayer by creating more expensive services run for profit not people. It puts at risk the services we all rely on when faced with big challenges.
This agenda of privatisation isn’t the end of our story. We’ve seen already time and time again that our Queensland community isn’t ready to cop this, that thousands of Queenslanders are ready to take a stand for the services that matter to them, their family and the people around them.
Right now, Queenslanders need you to renew that commitment. By joining the Working For Queenslanders movement you can demonstrate that you are ready to stand for a better Queensland against a privatised Queensland. We can’t afford to wait two years; these services are too important to too many people to let Campbell Newman off the hook.
Privatisation is not an abstract concept. The government doesn't want Queenslanders to think what it will mean on the ground and how it will undermine services, cost us all more and weaken Queensland. In the end, it’s the faces of the people that we work with, the faces of the person in need, the faces that shape a better Queensland that will help us win.
